How to Make a Leather Cosmetic Bag
Crafting a leather cosmetic bag makes an elegant and durable case to organize beauty products. With quality leather, some basic tools, and simple construction, you can create a sophisticated custom cosmetic bag.
What You Need
Leather hide or pre-cut panels
Leather glue
Sewing awl and thread
Ruler, scissors, hole punch
Zipper + leather zip tabs
Decorative studs/rivet (optional)
Step-By-Step Instructions
Step 1. Cut leather into two rectangles, one 9"x 6" and one 9" x 12" for bag panels. Skive edges if using thick hide.
Step 2. Mark and punch holes 1⁄2" in around three sides of smaller panel. Do same along one long edge of larger panel.
Step 3. Apply leather glue inside seams then stitch pieces together with awl and thread, leaving top open. Clamp for drying.
Step 4. Attach zipper using zipper tabs glued to inside edges of opening. Allow glue to dry fully before using zipper.
Step 5. Use hole punch to add holes for attaching shoulder strap or handles if desired.
Optional: Decorate by adding metal rivets or decorative studs. Add felt or fabric lining inside for extra luxury.
Let assembled leather bag dry completely for 24 hours allowing glue to fully cure before using. Fill with your favorite beauty products and enjoy your handcrafted leather cosmetic case!
