How to Make a Large Cosmetic Bag

A roomy cosmetic bag is perfect for organizing all your toiletries for travel or tidy storage at home. With some basic sewing skills and your choice of fabric, it's easy to create a custom oversized cosmetic bag.

What You Need

3/4 yard of main fabric

3/4 yard of lining fabric

20-inch zipper

Matching sewing thread

Basic sewing tools

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1. Cut two 15" x 12" rectangles from both main fabric and lining fabric. These will form the outer and inner panels of the bag.

Step 2. Take the two main fabric pieces and pin the 20-inch zipper horizontally across the center, with right sides facing up. Sew into place along both long sides of the zipper tape.

Step 3. Unzip halfway then stack the lining fabric atop the main fabric, right sides facing in. Align all edges.

Step 4. Sew all around the edges with a 1⁄2 inch seam allowance, leaving a 5-7 inch gap in the lining for turning later.

Step 5. Trim excess zipper fabric close to the stitches and clip corners at an angle to reduce bulk.

Step 6. Pull bag exterior through the lining gap and tuck raw edges in neatly. Topstitch around the top edge.
